Safe and Sensible Codes

ATTENTION Builders and Code Officials:

The International Code Council has changed their code development process to provide code officials and other eligible voters with the ability to vote remotely from their computer. This new process, known as cdpACCESS, will dramatically increase the number of participants. The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) is encouraging builders to ask their local code officials to become involved in the code development process. There is a 4 step process by which builders and code officials can work together in order to improve the building codes.

Chapter 40B Subsidized Housing Inventory Update

As of December 5, 2014, the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) released an update of the state’s Subsidized Housing Inventory (SHI). The SHI Inventory lists the number of affordable units that count toward a city or town’s 10% goal under Chapter 40B. Four (4) additional communities have reached the 10% threshold (Cohasset, Danvers, Hudson and Littleton), bringing the number of cities and towns which have reached their 10% threshold to 47. An additional 19 communities have reached 9%.

During the recent midterm elections, BUILD-PAC had a 95% success rate. Meaning that the candidates BUILD-PAC supported - House and Senate, Democrat and Republican - won their elections. With a Republican majority in both the House and Senate, now is the time to open new doors on Capitol Hill and reach out to industry leaders who understand and support housing and the many related industries it touches.
