FEMA: Next Steps
While FEMA actively works to implement the new law, we encourage policyholders to maintain and keep current flood insurance policies. FEMA does NOT recommend cancelling a flood insurance policy. Cancelling flood insurance policies now will leave policyholders unprotected during spring flooding and may cause policyholders to loose important discounts on their rate if they reinstate in the future.

“Fire Sprinkler Initiative NEWS”

The latest edition of “Fire Sprinkler Initiative NEWS” indicates that the filing of anti-sprinkler legislation appears to be slowing down (none listed for 2014).

There are still only two states listed that require mandatory sprinklers in one & two family dwellings – California and Maryland.

Minnesota lawmakers have passed new requirements for fire sprinklers in new homes larger than 4,500 square feet, effective January 24, 2015. Massachusetts has a similar requirement for houses larger than 7,500 SF.
